Summer picnics are a great way to enjoy the outdoors and each other’s company.
Teddy Bear Picnic Day is celebrated on July 10, 2021. Take your Teddy Bear and eat a meal outdoors, ideally taking place in a beautiful landscape such as a park, beside a lake, or with an interesting view. Or in your own backyard!
Before you go on a teddy bears picnic, you need to spruce up your favorite teddy bear. Fluff his fur and maybe tie on a fancy bow. Remind him to practice his manners.
You will want to pack some scrumptious treats for your outing. Make sure you have some of your teddy’s favorites!
Items you could include:
- peanut butter & honey sandwiches
- teddy bear graham cookies
- honeycomb cereal
- gummy bears
- berries
- chamomile tea
Bring non-perishable foods.* Reduce the worry of keeping foods at certain temperatures by limiting the number of perishable foods. Try bringing baked potato chips or pretzels instead of potato salad; washed whole fruit, dried fruit, or fruit cups instead of a fruit salad; and other snacks such as trail mix, nuts, or sunflower seeds.

A teddy bear picnic isn’t complete without a few games.
- Play hide and seek with your bear (but don’t forget where you hid him).
- Feeling brave? Go on a bear hunt. Read the book! Follow dance moves on YouTube!
- Can you make a list of famous bears?
- Make a bear cave by draping blankets over a table.
- Play an alphabet game, “I’m going on a teddy bear picnic and I’m taking… (an apple, a bear, a cupcake…)
- Point to your Teddy’s body parts: arm, leg, eyes, nose, mouth…
- Listen to the Teddy Bear Picnic song by Anne Murray or Bing Crosby on YouTube. Here are the lyrics:
