Role: I help manage the Foundation’s day-to-day operations while supporting special events, donor relations, communications, and other projects that increase awareness and raise funds. Ultimately, my work helps The Focus Foundation reach more families and expand access to treatment and care. (Note: Erin brings nearly 20 years of experience working with health- and education-focused nonprofits, with a background in grants and program management.)
Typical day: When families visit the office, I welcome them, answer their questions, and help them get settled before they meet with the clinical team. I also schedule meetings, coordinate with consultants, handle office operations, and help plan major events. Right now, much of my time is focused on organizing our annual 49,XXXXY Family Conference and supporting preparations for upcoming fundraising events.
Favorite part of working at the foundation: After working for several large national organizations, I was drawn to The Focus Foundation by the opportunity to serve families closer to home and feel more connected to my community.
What I value most is the direct connection I have with the families we serve. Although we are a small, family-centered nonprofit rooted in the local community, our work reaches children and families across the country and around the world. That combination of personal connection and global reach is incredibly rewarding.
Seeing our impact firsthand also helps me speak authentically with donors about how their support directly benefits families and expands access to care. Every penny we raise goes directly to families, and I love that.
Outside of work: I live in the Annapolis area with my husband and our two sons. We recently discovered a shared love of boating and spend a lot of time on the water. When we’re back on land, we enjoy mountain biking. I recently stepped outside my comfort zone a little to become an assistant coach for my sons’ team. I ride at the back of the group as the “sweep,” to make sure no young riders are left behind on the trail. It has been challenging, fun, and a wonderful way for our family to be outside and spending time together.
We’re incredibly grateful for all Erin contributes to The Focus Foundation. Her extensive nonprofit background, strategic thinking, and ability to anticipate needs and develop solutions before challenges arise help strengthen our operations and expand our reach. As the Foundation continues to grow, Erin plays a critical role in ensuring we can serve more children and families across the country and around the world.
