M.D., Associate Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai

Dr. Debra Counts joins The Focus Foundation team to assist with the care for all children with genetic disorders. Dr. Counts is the Associate Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai. She joined Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in March 2015. She attended medical school at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and did her residency in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She completed her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Children’s Hospital, Washington University in St. Louis, and a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She has completed clinical research studies for Type 1 diabetes prevention and, growth disorders. She is now collaborating with The Focus Foundation on various scientific studies on the natural history and longitudinal progression of these disorders. She is also collaborating on specific cross-sectional studies to identify critical endocrinological aspects of care that will optimize neurodevelopmental outcome of all children with X and Y chromosomal variations, recognizing the importance of the complex relationship involving behavior, hormones, and neurodevelopmental outcome of all children with X & Y chromosomal variations.
